Loyalist

British High-Gain 4-Channel Amplifier (Mark II)

Got a question about this product? Ask us!

The SonicTone Loyalist amplifier is the next evolution of British high-gain amplifiers. Standing on the shoulders of the amps that came before it, the Loyalist takes the next step forward, with a total of 4 channels and extra gain stages to produce this high-gain monster. Like its American counterpart, it's a very versatile amp with an extremely wide range of tones to suit your tastes. The result is a mid-range focused tone with a tight low-end, with tons of gain to spare - which is great for leads that can cut through the mix.

For a quick overview of the amp, channel 1 is a beautiful clean line that can also deliver a crunchy overdrive. Channel 2 is "secretly" the same preamp as the '81 Special. The stock versions channels 3 and 4 are voiced with the same high gain tone, but both have a few tonal options to allow you to set them up differently.

The Loyalist comes with a channel 4 voicing option called the "Culper" mod. Keeping with the British vs. American Revolutionary War theme of the Modern Series, the "Culper" mod is named after the American spy ring that infiltrated the British ranks. Here, the mod gives the originally British-voiced channel 4 of the Loyalist a more American tone, with thicker bass and more scooped mids.

Recommended Speaker Pairing: 25-watt Celestion Greenbacks for 80's rock & metal; 75-watt Celestion G12Ts for modern metal.

Loyalist stands with the best!

I’m still in the honeymoon phase, but I know what I like I and really like my Loyalist. I own several highly regarded boutique amps and the Loyalist easily stands with them. Build quality and tone are superb. It definitely has a British character. I can hear certain influences in it without it being an exact clone of any particular amp. The Loyalist; while being in the same realm, still has its own unique character to set it apart. For feel, I like where it sits. It’s compressed enough to keep and even keel with variances in picking, but not so much so to feel stiff. On the other end it has enough give that you can tell the difference between low and high or passive and active output pickups. And each channel has a slightly different feel. Channel 2 (crunch) is a bit more responsive than Channel 3/4 (high gain). I asked for mine to be modded. Instead of duplicate channels for 3 & 4 I wanted Ch3 to be the Loyalist high gain channel & Ch4 be the high gain from the Patriot model. So Ch4 would be more American sounding having more scooped mids and a bit more bass. This setup would be more useful to me than duplicate channels. We’ve dubbed this the Culper mod. (Google Culper spy ring and you’ll get the reference). Ch1 is clean/light crunch depending on how you set it. There’s a bright switch. For single coils it’s set to taste. It pretty much always on for humbuckers to keep it lively sounding. Ch2 can do up to hard rock. I hear it as a mix between a Plexi, 6550 JCM800 & SLO. Ch3/4 is high gain. Tone wise I hear a British quality with what I detect as some 5150/6505 influence. Similar for my modded Ch4, but with more scooped mids, more bass and a hint more treble; overall more American sounding with some British bite. I can’t say enough good things about the Loyalist. Tone and quality are top notch. It will stand with any high regarded boutique amp. I would recommend it to anyone.
